Why weekly date nights are a must
Good morning 🌞
This last week, Taylor and I went on a date without Henley.
We haven’t done this in a few months.
We would like to try and do it more, but life is busy.
We had the best time.
Definitely a top 5 date of our entire relationship.
We had good food, great wine, and even better talks.
It was a beautiful reminder of how important it is to do this.
I’m not going to claim to be a parenting expert, but what I do know to be true is this…
Our marriage comes before our kid.
It has to.
This isn’t selfish or disordered. It is actually the opposite.
When we put our marriage first, our family will flourish.
If we were to put our kids above our marriage, our relationship would suffer. Therefore our family would suffer.
I think of it like this…
In my life, I have many roles. Here they are in order of importance…
Son of God the Father
Husband of Taylor
Father of Henley
If I EVER let those get out of that order, everything comes crumbling down.
My relationship with Christ comes first. Without Him, I am nothing.
My marriage comes next. It’s the Vocation God has called me into.
That Vocation has born fruit and now we have a child.
Taylor and I protect every Tuesday night for date night.
Most of the time we just stay in with Henley. And those nights are beautiful too.
It doesn’t matter what we do, as long as we dedicate that time to be together.
No exceptions.
So have a weekly date night. If you can, find a babysitter and go out.
Don’t let your roles get out of order.
God bless,
Mitch + Taylor
