Stop Telling People You're Busy
Good morning 🌞
Have you noticed that everyone’s response to “how are you?” is always “busy!”
It’s an easy response.
We catch ourselves saying it a lot too.
And it might be true, but is the constant complaining about being busy good for society?
Probably not.
Did Jesus tell us to make ourselves busy?
Definitely not.
Then, why are we all so “busy?”
Busyness tends to make us feel like we are being productive and doing something that matters.
Our natural path to busyness is set by a society that is never satisfied and overstimulated all the time.
It’s a hard path to avoid.
But busyness is not always a good thing, especially if we aren’t handling it well.
Jesus never commanded that we be busy.
Actually, it’s quite the opposite.
Busyness is the enemy of the family and the domestic church.
It prevents families from eating meals together, engaging in spontaneous conversation, and abiding together.
As Catholics, we have to fight our tendency toward busyness.
Busyness is not a path to sainthood. It’s a road to destruction.
You can fight it by being intentional with your time.
Carve out time for what matters. Only focus on what is providing a living for your family and what brings you energy.
Make time to do nothing.
And stop telling everyone you’re “busy.”
Tell them about the blessings in your life.
Engage in real, authentic conversation.
God bless,
Mitch + Taylor
