The one change we just made in our home
Good morning 🌞
After Henley’s birthday party, we were cleaning up and decided to make a change in our house.
We moved a lot of furniture around to set the party up.
This included our living room TV.
It was chilling in our bedroom still.
Henley had some new fun toys to play with, and they all needed a place to go.
So we just decided, “Hey, let’s not move the TV back into the living room and see how it goes!”
We don’t watch a lot of TV anyway, but we thought it’d be fun to dedicate the living room to conversations and play. No screens.
And it’s gone super well.
Henley has a ton of space to crawl around. There’s no temptation to turn the TV on in the evenings when we get tired. We wait until she goes to bed.
I’m not against TVs and screens overall. I think in moderation it’s not going to hurt. But this small, and probably temporary change, has been a net positive.
Will we keep it that way?
Heck no.
College football starts in 28 days.
And I’m going to have College Gameday on every Saturday morning with a pumpkin spice latte in my left-hand and a squirming one-year-old in my right.
Overall, this has taught us that our physical space has a lot to do with our routines and ability to foster a healthy home.
Every item in our homes has a purpose. It’s either bringing your family closer together and to Christ, or it’s not.
Auditing your physical space through the lens of how conducive it is to a healthy family and prayerful environment is a good idea every few months.
God bless,
Mitch and Taylor
