4 essential items for Catholic homes

Good morning! 🌞

Thanks again for subscribing to A Catholic Home newsletter. Our promise is to provide you with actionable tips and advice as you navigate this world as a young Catholic. Whether you are a creator, entrepreneur, college student, husband, wife, dad, or mom, this newsletter is for you.

Let’s dive in…

We thought we’d kick off the first issue with a fun one.

Here are 4 things in our home that we think all Catholics should have in order to foster deep prayer and good community.

1. Couches and more couches

This one seems silly and obvious, but having a space for your guests to gather and be comfortable while conversing is crucial to building community in your home.

Truth be told, we are still working on this one… we’ve only got one couch!

Create a space where many guests can gather, converse, and have plenty of coasters for them to set down their coffee!

2. Catholic art and imagery

Decorate your home with an abundance of Catholic art that lifts the soul to God. Find a “Last Supper” painting for your dining room. Get a Sacred Heart of Jesus image in your living room. Find icons and images of your favorite Saints to scatter throughout the home.

Filling your home with inspiring imagery will make it easier to enter into prayer.

We have found most of our Catholic art thrifting. You’d be amazed at what you can find out there for cheap!

3. Holy Water Fonts

Install holy water fonts at your main threshold(s). We like this one with the Holy Family on it. Fill it with holy water from your parish or have a priest bless some water for you.

When you leave or come back home, bless yourself with the sign of the cross. Invite your guests to do the same.

4. Traeger, Blackstone, or both!

We might be biased since we love smoking meats, but nothing brings people together like some good grub.

Investing in a Traeger, Blackstone, or other large grill or appliance that allows for the cooking of mass amounts of food is a great way to initiate community. You’ll naturally find yourself hosting people more often.

Just in the last month, we smoked two briskets and grilled over 40 hamburgers across various occasions.

These gatherings can lead to deeper relationships and encounter. So go ahead, get that smoker!

We hope you’ve found this list helpful. Anything we missed? Reply with some things you have that are essential for a Catholic home!

Have a blessed week!
